On the Set: Michael Bay prepares the new model 'Transformers

With 'Dark of the Moon,' the director wants to blow up the memory of 'Revenge of the Fallen.'

Transformers: Dark of the MoonMay 01, 2011|By Geoff Boucher, Los Angeles Times

Michael Bay stood with his hand on his hip and inspected the surface of the moon — the gray dunes and silent ridgelines spread out before him, stretching off into the dark distance. He turned to a visitor and grinned. "C'mon, that's pretty great, right?"

It was just another day on the Playa Vista set of "Transformers: Dark of the Moon," and the fast-moving filmmaker was passing by the lunar surface set that filled one hangar-sized soundstage on his way to a neighboring set where returning star Shia LaBeouf and franchise newcomer John Malkovich were waiting for their camera call.

Linkin Park Track Featured In Next Transformers Movie

Linkin Park's "Iridescent" will be featured in the upcoming Transformers movie. The band had contributed songs to the previous two films in the franchise, "What I've Done" and "New Divide."
New DivideTransformers: Dark Of The Moon, the third in the live-action Transformers series, will be released July 1.
Michael Bay, director of the movie, says he believes the new song, which appears on Linkin Park's album A Thousand Suns, will be a hit.
"The first two songs were huge hits and I have no doubt that this new song will be equally as successful," Bay said.
Meanwhile, the band had this to say about the inclusion of the track in the movie: "'Iridescent' has always been a fan-favorite when we play live, so we're thrilled that Michael Bay decided to feature it in his thirdTransformers movie."

New Transformers: Dark Of The Moon Image Suggests That The Movie Is A Pink Floyd Rock Opera

Transformers: Dark of the MoonPrepare, Michael Bay fans. The first theatrical trailer for Transformers: Dark of the Moon is almost here. For the past few days we've been posting images from the movie, including the new Decepticon known as Shockwave, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, and Bumblebee, but today's image is a bit of a mystery.

Apple has released the new still from the film and...holy shit I just figured it out. The title of the movie is Dark of the Moon? They release an image of a Great Gig In The Sky? Transformers 3 is actually a rock opera featuring the music of Pink Floyd. I'm also going to wager a guess that the first song they sing will be "Brain Damage" - it's the perfect note to get things started on after the noisy trainwreck that was Transformers 2.

Check out the image below and see it in high res over on Apple.

WHY MUST SEE THE TRANSFORMERS MOVIE

Must-see movies are futuristic classics that shouldn't be missed. Of course, not every must-see is perfect. That's why we've rated them 1-5 on the patented "crunchy goodness" scale.
TransformersThe Transformers - The Movie (20th Anniversary Special Edition)Transformers (Two-Disc Special Edition + BD Live) [Blu-ray]
Title: Transformers
Date: 2007

Vitals: A boy befriends his alien robot car, and discovers he may be the only person on Earth who can rescue the human race from an evil alien robot named Megatron, from the planet Cybertron, who is trying to do something bad.

Famous names: Michael Bay, Shia LeBouf

Crunchy goodness: 2

Bang for your buck: Bay hosed his special effects team with cash so that they could make the transformers look awesomely cool. Results are debatable: some have hailed the car-to-robot transformation sequences as awesome, others have called them an awful blur of nothing-specialness.

Life lesson: Cars dig hot chicks.

Sight you'll never unsee: Glimpses of the Transformers' genitalia as they transform, and one bizarre moment when one of the Transformers actually "pees" oil on another character

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

The main hurdle in getting the film produced was overcoming the 2007–2008 Writers Guild of the united states strike, as well as possible strikes by the Directors Guild of the united states & the Screen Actors Guild. Bay completed his production on time with the help of previsualization & a scriptment by his writers Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman, & series newcomer Ehren Kruger. Shooting from May to November 2008 predominantly took place in the United States, including the majority of scenes set in outside countries, a maximum of which was conducted in those actual nations.
